This body of work stems from the contrasting practices of my work with the Indigenous artists, which involves the intimate and gentle practices of sewing, and my public art that often involves the harsher practices of construction and welding. Their extreme differences reflect my experience of living in Alice Springs in many ways.

Having worked with steel for over 30 years, I’m always contemplating not only the challenges it presents, but also the different creative process that men and women take when working with this hard medium. In this work I’m exploring an amalgamation of these different methodologies.
