How's the weather?

September 2025

The Roastery Gallery

"How's the Weather? " takes its' title from a familiar daily question, but here it becomes a way of seeing the desert anew. Living in Mparntwe, I witness weather’s continual transformations, how rain, heat, and wind shape the land, and how the land itself absorbs and remembers these encounters. These works are a response to that memory of weather, translated into colour, texture, and form. Here painting and drawing are combined with mesh to examine connections between inside and outside, past and present, permanence and ephemerality. The mesh allows me to explore the threshold between domestic interiors and the expansive outdoor life that defines Central Australia while drawing upon the presence of the ever pervasive sunlight which dances shadows around the landscape.

Speaks of the iconic outback landscape when it is so red, speckled with the grey dried grasses that burst through its hard clay surfaces. I can sometimes experience these times as harsh, when I cough all through the night because the air is so dry. It’s difficult to keep enough moisture in my body, my hands and heels begin to crack open and sometimes bleed. This is when my body begins to mimic the landscape as I get closer to the natural rhythms this country has endured over millennia
